Since then, I buy generic but I sometimes buy branded when kids want variety.

If you find a generic diaper that works, then by all means it can be a huge saver, but not all diapers are made the same, and we found that some diapers just weren’t compatible with our kids, and it often varied between our two kids. Some diapers didn’t keep things contained. Go through that a couple of times and the cleanout and washing sheets and clothes cancels out any savings benefit. Another issue is rashes. Some diapers seem to cause rashes on kids, and this is one that doesn’t seem to correlate directly with how expensive the diaper is.

So, while I agree that it *can* save you money, there are a few extra gotchas that you need to watch out for, and in some cases, the more expensive diapers actually turn out to offer the biggest savings in the long run.
