Sounds like it would take some confidence by the homeowner to trust strangers to house sit but could be HUGE savings on both sides.

I would love to travel but the situation at the moment (home situation and pocket-wise) can’t permit it yet but I’d sure refer to this in case I’d get the chance to finally fulfill this dream of mine.

That’s not ideal, but a benefit is all the hotel points she accumulates. We’ve stayed in some great places totally for free thanks to her points. And sometimes I go along on her work travel and stay for free with her.

I just had a three-month housesitting gig, which was great for the free rent and the furry kitty. 😀

If you and your fiancé will be traveling together at all, home exchange can be another option. This is when you swap homes with another traveler, who’ll stay at your home.

I actually find getting cheap accommodation to be more straightforward than free flights!

I am not a high maintenance person but I am definitely not one to rough it. I would really like to house sit but it’s more of a long term thing, hence why permanent nomads do it a lot – read up about it before we left and realised it didn’t really suit our plans.

I am the biggest introvert but really enjoy Couchsurfing nonetheless. It’s not something I would do continously (and I doubt you could anyway, that would require a LOT of preplanning and a LOT of luck given the ratio of hosts to surfers) but every so often to break things up it’s great. Most people will only host for a couple of days and that’s not too big of a chunk of time to spend with strangers, and depending on the host you may not see them all that much.
