It can be a tough call to determine if driving far to a cheaper airport is worth the cost. But if the flight at the closest airport is 2X, then it sounds like the 7 hours on the road is worth it.
Enjoy the trip!

It’ll be our first family trip to the beach that both kids will remember. Initally we had planned on driving but switched to flying when the prices fell far enough to where it would be comfortable. We do have a 3.5 hour drive because in order to get the good pricing, we have to drive to the fifth closest airport. The airport that’s 45 minutes away is double the price.

I have a vacation next week which will be my first actual vacation for years. Usually, I just visit my parents or siblings and crash at their place, or stay in Charleston for a stay-cation. I don’t usually mind at all, and it helps save a ton of money.
