I too always looked at the CRA and Revenu Quebec envelopes with utter dread. I would likely throw the $40 back at the mortgage, you didn’t miss it as it was going towards estimated property taxes.

I’m always so nervous when I receive mail from them – I’m always expecting it to be an audit. 🙂 Are you going to put the wedding money toward something specifically so that it’s sort of like a majorly big wedding gift from all your guests?

I’d keep the mortgage up that $40, so that it goes to your principle… not too much to feel it in back in your budget, but it ‘s an extra $500/year.
