I always tell the interviewer my previous salary. I think for those with much experience, they can negotiate. But, for those new, I think they can settle what is offered to them. Going back to my negotiation, I actually ask salary range. If it is below my expectation, I would say I would consider it and ask for other benefits which could be a big factor to deciding on the job.

If you tell one person a number, and then it comes up somewhere else down the line, whether with someone else doing another interview, or even on a form for HR, it might present the opportunity for a discrepancy. Just tell the truth and you don’t have to fret.
