When I first started blogging, I’d hoped that I wouldn’t just give up on it like many of the other projects I’d started in the past. I had fun reading other people’s blogs, and really wanted somewhere where I could put pen to paper, so to speak.

why begin blogging?

I’m so, so glad I stuck with it, because as it turns out, I’m a huge fan of blogging. I should wear a pin or something. Anyway, here are seven reasons that I love blogging.

Building a Network

Call it what you like, but blogging is a great way to build up a network of people who share interests and values with you. I feel closer to some bloggers than I do to some of my non-blogger friends. We seek each other out because we’re interested in a common topic or theme, which fosters a relationship based on mutual interest in one another’s lives. I love that. I always feel like somebody understands me.

Learning Something New

Before I started blogging, I had an interest in personal finance and self improvement, but my knowledge was limited.

As I developed and posted to my blog, I also read other people’s blogs. I learned a ton about a whole bunch of topics, such as finance, achieving goals, setting goals, blogging, and the internet in general.

I’m always learning about money and I think, regardless of what stage you are at, there’s always something to be learned. I think it’s great that we, as bloggers, get to tap into other people’s areas of expertise and learn more about it from a more personal point of view.

Knowledge Sharing

I really don’t consider myself an expert on anything, but I know that I can offer some advice as to the products and companies I love and hate, what worked for me and what didn’t regarding financials and health, and how I keep my motivation up enough to set and achieve my goals.

Community

It’s ridiculous, yes, but I have used my blog to complain about stuff more than anything. Or at least, I feel like I do. I vent a lot on my blog, about situations, finances, relationships, and goals that I’m not hitting. And I whine.

I actually probably whine more on Twitter. But the best thing about blogging is there’s always somebody out there that reads your blog that feels the same way as you do. There are also many that feel differently. And that’s cool too.

I’ll never forget what was going on in my life

With blogging, especially the way I do it (by keeping a much more personal type blog), I don’t think I’ll ever forget or not know how I felt about something. It will be interesting to look back on WLGYL in a couple of years and remember things that I was thinking or doing now.

Accountability

When I post about a goal or something on my blog, I’m so much more likely to achieve it or complete the task. I feel like I’m held accountable by my blog, my readers, and my social media followers.

It’s possibly even just the act of writing it down publicly.

I also love that other bloggers host and create challenges, which definitely foster some mega accountability.

There are probably a billion other things I love about blogging, which is why I stuck with it. What about you, fellow bloggers – what do you love (or hate!) about blogging?
