Things I Want To Do When I Graduate

There are so many things that I’ve been saying I want to do when I graduate. I’m getting sick of hearing myself say “When I graduate I want to _____”. I’m hoping to be able to graduate in August, though it is in the hands of my future employer.

The last class I need to take is during the day on Friday, and as excited as I am to put school behind me, I need to have a job; if, after I finish internship #3, my employer will not let me take Fridays off for my last class, I will have to postpone my graduation date.

Anyways. I digress. Starting August, provided that I do graduate, here is a list of activities (and projects) that I hope to be able to start within the few months after graduation:

  1. Write more
  2. Pick up my first few freelancing projects
  3. Take up yoga
  4. Work out 5x/week again
  5. Travel a little more (this might have to be in the year after graduation, and this is provided that I find a job after graduation)
  6. Write an ebook
  7. Go snowboarding more often
  8. Go to Oregon for the weekend
  9. Take a cooking class
  10. Take a language class (French)
  11. Try a new recipe every week
  12. Go hiking more often
  13. Learn to sew
  14. Learn more about blogging
  15. Create a few extra pages on my blog

Some of these are incredibly simple, and probably things that I could even do now while I’m in school. For instance, how hard is creating some new pages on my blog? Not that hard, but I have a vision in my head about what I want it to look like and I don’t want to half-ass it. It will take me awhile to do it.

I could also probably go snowboarding but I can’t really sacrifice the full day that I would want to spend up on the slopes, so I’m pushing this until after graduation.

I currently do almost none of these things. I do learn a little more about blogging and blog improvement every time I write a new post. There’s so much to learn!

I can’t wait to throw myself into things that I actually enjoy. I do enjoy school, but at this point I’m not taking any interesting courses and I feel like my time could be better spent elsewhere.

Needless to say, I’m getting more and more excited about graduation by the minute. I can’t wait for freedom.

  1. I am going to steal some of your goals… like the cooking class! I’ve had that on my list of goals for about 6 years, and for some reason I can never spend the money to take the class. I keep thinking I can just use that money on a nice restaurant meal instead.

    1. I have started cooking for my wife these past few weeks. I dont know where it came from but it is alot of fun. I’m not so good on the clean up portion though. Isn’t that how it goes…I cook you clean???

What are your time frames for completing these?

  2. Your list is the EXACT same as what I want to do! I can’t wait until I have more free time and I am able to do the things that I want.

  3. Looks like a great list. I need to start working out 5x a week myself. No yoga for me…atleast not yet.

  4. I think you have some awesome goals! I had lots of plans for what I would do after grad school, and I let myself get too caught up in the working world to accomplish most of them. I need to revisit some of the things I want to do.

Thanks for the shout out, and your sidebar sure is looking nice these days! 😀

  5. daisy, i bet you could get started on some of those items now, before you get out of school. for example, you have enough great content in your archives already to put together a pretty sweet little e-book.

f you are thinking that you will have more TIME after you get out of school, it didn’t really work that way for me. but you will certainly have more money.. so yeah, the travel thing is certainly true.

  6. That is a big list but many of them will be easy to knock out!

It’s all about lifestyle change and making priorities. Set your mind to it and nothing can hold you back!

Sewing is an interesting one…not sure I’d put that on my list. lol. The rest sound pretty awesome though!

  7. What inclines you towards learning French? For my PhD program, I’ll need to develop a working use of a foreign language, and I’m trying to narrow my pick down. French would be a good choice for me due to a couple of my interests, but I lean towards Spanish due to the fact that I have a little background in it.

  8. Love your list! I really, really want to take up yoga again; I just have to make it a priority.
Not sure where in Oregon it is you want to go, but Portland is fun! I went there a few years ago.
Keep us updated on your list 😛

  9. Love your list! It’s really good to have goals, and in this case they also serve as something to look forward to…which is SO important while you’re in the grind.

  10. This is a good list of challenging goals. You’re gonna still be very busy after you graduate. I especially like 5, 6, 9, and 14, because they’re on my list as well. As for 10, I want to become more fluent. Good luck with your future endeavors, and I hope you’ll be able to graduate by August.

  11. Love the list! I bet you could even start some now if you ever have a minute. Wait, I know I know. Good luck friend!

  12. Love the list, I’ve always wanted to be a part of Big Sisters too- maybe when I’m done school, though that’ll easily be 7 years from now.

  13. Great list! I have always wanted to take cooking classes but have never found time (excuses, excuses). I am really surprised you would like to learn French. I have not met many people, that do not live in Quebec, that have any interest in learning French.

Are there any French communities around where you live?

  14. Cool list! You should go to France so that you can travel AND learn French at the same time =) I’ve studied it for a few years in college for fun and I love the language, but where I live I don’t use it so it quickly faded away. French movies also helped 🙂

  15. Great list! I’ll be your advocate for snowboarding 🙂 you definitely need to get back out onto the mountain!

  16. I’ll be happy when I graduate so I can do some more enjoyable tasks too. At this point I’m taking about half of my classes online so I can work around my work schedule. Which takes up the majority of my free time. I would definitely like to pick up a few freelancing projects and learn more about blogging. Looks like you’ll be graduating soon and on your way to achieving all of your goals. 😀

  17. Daisy, I’m proud that at such a younger age, you are goal oriented. And I know that you’ll get your degree in August with flying colors.

  18. That’s a great list! I would not want to take a cooking class because I don’t like cooking. I’d rather take a wine class. I do want to go to Oregon coast! On a road trip with my pug. 🙂

  19. Definitely a great list! Here’s to hoping you CRUSH each and every one of those… maybe hit up one or two quickies before August too… I’m thinking #8… how long could that take haha

  20. Great list. When I graduated I thought I’d have so much more free time, then I started looking for a job and before I knew it I was working. Make sure to set aside time for the ones that are most important to you, I wish I had.

And on the sewing, go for it! I learned a few years ago and it’s been a big stress reliever and very economical. I’ve made curtains, quilts and baby clothes for friends, among other things.
